London

The squirrels were out in Russell Square this morning and I wasn't the only one stalking them! They were as fast today as they were yesterday but I had the camera so had a bit more luck getting a photo. They are so cute! Although, as I learned today, the grey squirrels may not be as cute as I thought.

They are an introduced species and have banished the red squirrels so while I had been hoping for a photo of one of them too, it's just not going to be possible.

We caught up with friends (N & S) and their new baby this morning for brunch. They live out near Emirates Stadium (Arsenal country) - we didn't actually see the stadium on our Uber rides there and back. What we did see was lots of double-decker buses, people, London cabs, parks, bicycle riders with food packs, people, bicycle riders without helmets (are helmets compulsory here?), people, churches, buildings, train stations, bus stops, shops - and did I mention people? It really is like home is Sleepy Hollow.

N and S took us to Blighty Cafe and it was hard to go past the Full English although it wasn't hard to leave the blood pudding and the bone marrow untouched.

I did offer it to the others but there were no takers. I have not had bone marrow before except as Osso Bucco but I think that's quite different - it certainly looked different. I have had blood pudding - 34 years ago, the last time I was in the UK. I wasn't keen to try it again - even though I accept it is a traditional comfort food - served in a funky space - according to Google. And it was pretty funky. I loved the photo of the diner on the wall.

By the time we arrived back at the Hotel, our room hadn't been made up. Apparently they do vacated rooms in the mornings, and staying rooms in the afternoon. We decided to wait and do a late lunch and then to go for a wander to pick up some groceries. I'm still amazed that local grocery shops sell alcohol. We didn't buy any but we could have.

Lunch was pretty good. We went to the Italian cafe in Russell Square. Sooz had a steak sandwich and I had the soup of the day - Chicken. It was good and I think we have to go back again to try out their Jacket Potato - with a filling. The decor was interesting too.

Rather than going off on the HoHo (Hop On Hop Off) bus this afternoon, we've decided to do it tomorrow. I was able to squeeze in a power nap before we had a call with some mates we are meeting up with in Midsomeer Murders country at the end of the week. It's good to have a plan.
